For the 2010-2011 school year, the 18 elementary and middle schools in the Evergreen area of San Jose, California are facing devastating cuts that will seriously diminish the quality of education for over 13,000 kids. The district budget has been slashed 10% ($10M), requiring teacher lay-offs, class size increases, reduction in library and bus services, and the elimination of GATE and middle school counseling. The future of California school funding will continue to be bleak, and only with parent support can we start to change the outlook.
Evergreen Elementary
Community-in-Action (EECIA)
was formed to help find solutions to the budget issues facing Evergreen schools.
EECIA consists of parents, teachers, and other concerned members of the
community committed to addressing school budget issues at local and state levels.
We as parents are working closely with district administrators, teachers, classified union workers, and local government representatives on solutions. But we cannot do it alone and need your help.
Please help us in sustaining a quality education for our children as we've come to expect from Evergreen Elementary Schools.
No contribution of ideas or time is too little to make a difference. A big thank you from all of us!
